2025 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

This essay aims to describe an irregular opponent’s capacity in logistical sustainability. This will be compared by studying North Vietnams logistical network through two periods during the Vietnam war. To know about inferior opponent’s logistics and how they implement it in war and operations is important to the Swedish armed forces. This to develop their own logistical capacity in planning and executing their logistical operations. The aim for this study is to answer the research question: “How did the North Vietnamese maintain their logistical sustainability during the ‘Tet Offensive’?”.

The North Vietnam maintained their logistical sustainability during the preparations by establishing a logistical network with a substantial number of logistical units and nodes. The initial stage during the Tet offensive, the Norh Vietnam did not fulfill all the properties from the theory used. To maintain sustainability in logistics it is important to plan both the preparation and the initial stage of an operation. The planning on a strategic level should involve the logistical phase otherwise there could be a lack of resources and delays in deliveries.
