Secondary school teacher’s lessons from the pandemic (English)
Abstract [en]
The study is a qualitative investigation examining middle school teachers' lessons from the pandemic within the Swedish school system. The study used a semi-structured interview format, and data from the interviews were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. Fourteen middle school teachers from various municipalities between Skåne and Uppland were interviewed. Adaptive Leadership Theory and Coping Strategies were used to analyze the collected information.
The results of the study show that middle school teachers have developed greater knowledge of new tools in teaching. Part of this is that some middle school teachers use more new tools like Teams, classroom and Miro in their work, while other middle school teachers use more analog tools like extra assignments as a result of the pandemic. The study concludes that middle school teachers have learned to be more adaptable.
The study contributes to an understanding of the lessons middle school teachers have learned about conducting teaching and which they have implemented. The study also connects with previous research on the importance of teaching for students and how leadership affects operations like schools. The study speculates on the differences in how middle school teachers experienced the pandemic, the factors that influenced their adaptation strategies, and which coping strategies were used.
