This study is grounded in the problem of the drones importance in future wars and the current trend of future warfare exposing the units fighting them ever more. The purpose of this study aims to further the current knowledge on the importance of the drone in modern war by examining how exposed ground-units have been to armed drones. The analysis compares the defensive measures against drones and how it has affected the exposure of ground units against such systems in the Azerbaijan-Armenia war of 2020 and the Russia-Ukraine war in the period 2022-2024. The conclusions show that the war of 2020 saw Armenia put up a less effective drone-defense than Ukraine managed, leaving them more exposed. Due to Armenia's poor performance it is hard to establish the importance of drones from this analysis alone. There is however implication of the drones' usefulness even in future wars, with their development into cheap and simple platforms seeing them used against ground-units even in less exposed battlefields, despite high rates of attrition.
