Abstract [en]
This essay describes and examines how different aspects of deployment were handled to achieve Tempo and Efficiency in RSOM operations through Moshe Kress theory of operational logistics. The broad aim of the essay is to broaden the theoretical knowledge around RSOM, without NATO doctrines as the main material. More narrowly the essay examines how a RSOM operation is conducted to achieve Tempo and Efficiency and if there are some parts of the operation that is more delicate than others.
To examine RSOM, this essay used an instrumental case study that focuses on operation Desert Shield. A describing approach with open-ended questions was used to be able to do the analysis in an open-minded manner. Operation Desert Shield was examined due to it being one of the largest deployments of an expeditionary power projection ever made. The result of the essay shows that the order and ratio of fighting versus logistic units seems to play a role in the ability to perform efficient RSOM operations with tempo. Scheduling support from civilian and military allies is also an aspect that seems to promote efficiency and tempo.
