Krigföringens principer ligger till grund för många nationers strategi och taktikanpassning, så även Sveriges. Försvarsmaktens modell för taktikens grunder har sitt ursprung i principer vilka funnits i flera hundra år. De ingående delarna i taktikens grunder kan användas som ett verktyg för att värdera effekten av ett vapensystem. Genom analys av hur väl en skyttegrupp kan tillämpa taktikens grunder baserat på förändrade förutsättningar kan en vapensystemvärdering genomföras.

Studien undersökte framträdande teknologier för moderna vapensystem, samt hur dessa lämpar sig för Försvarsmakten. En fiktiv skyttegrupp togs fram och jämfördes med dagens skyttegrupp, genom en fallstudie placerad i ett realistiskt scenario.

Resultatet pekade på att en utveckling av ammunition och sikten, snarare än vapensystem, är det som framtidens teknologi kommer handla om. Med fallstudien som verktyg prövades en skyttegrupp med morgondagens förmåga i tre olika scenarion. Slutsatserna visade att varje soldat kan nå högre verkan på både kortare och längre avstånd än idag, samtidigt som den totala vikten i kilogram av gruppens ammunition minskar. 

The Principles of war forms the basis for many nations strategy and tactics, so also Swedens. The Swedish armed forces model for the basics of tactics has its origins in the principles of war that has been around for several hundred years. The components of the basic of tactics can be used as a tool to evaluate the effect of a weapons system. Through an analyses of how well an infantry squad can apply the basics of tactics, based on changed conditions, a weapons system evaluation can be carried out.

The study examined prominent technologies for modern battlefields, and how they suit the Swedish armed forces. A fictitious infantry squad was compared with todays infantry squad through a case study placed in a realistic scenario.

The results indicated that the development in ammunitions and sights, rather than weapons systems, is what affects the development today. With the case study as a tool the infantry squad of tomorrow was evaluated in three scenarios. The results show that every soldier will be able to contribute more to the fight on more distances than today, while reducing the overall weight of the squads ammunition.
