Abstract [en]
The thesis aims to investigate possible consequences of a Swedish governmental agency’s crisis communication on social media. Through the theoretical framework of intersectionality, it explores if social media as a platform for crisis communication has in fact created risks for new kinds of vulnerability among groups in society when a crisis strikes. The study raises some possible entailments which might follow the increased use of social media in governmental crisis communication. The conclusion proposes that in particular situations some actors might run a higher risk of sociotechnical vulnerability to crises, while in other situations the resilience is increased. The conclusion also highlights the probability that an actor’s risk of vulnerability is dependent on a number of factors; both the actor’s individual characteristics as well as the governmental agency’s ability to use social media in a satisfactory way.
