Abstract [en]
It is a problem that officers and non-commissioned officers leave the army in a wider range than expected. This study explores the impact of job-satisfaction at work among officers and non-commissioned officers and how job-satisfaction contribute to officers and non-commissioned officer’s intentions to stay in or leave the armed forces. Fredrich Herzberg’s two-factor theory is used to survey job satisfaction and William H. Mobley´s intermediate linkages turnover model is used to examine the relationship between job-satisfaction and employee turnover intentions.
Data were gathered by interview of 17 officers and non-commissioned officers of the Swedish armed forces.
Results show that there is a difference between officers and non-commissioned officers intentions to leave the armed forces. Security in employment is the factor that has most impact on officers’ intensions to leave the armed forces. For non-commissioned officers the two factors that have most impact is the possibility for development and payment in relation to responsibility.
