The Culmination Point of Victory was named by Clausewitz. It describes the timing when an offensive power slows down. The aim of this paper is to extend the research done on the phenomenon of Culminations Point of Victory. More precisely, the purpose of this study is to understand the impact of a failed special operation on a Culminating Point. This is studied through a process-tracing method on the case of Hostomel and the offensive against Kyiv in 2022. Considering this, the question that remains is how the failure of Hostomel contributed to the culmination of the Russian offensive against Kyiv. The framework that is used to create hypotheses are based on Vegos “Recipe for defeat” and reinforced by theorist McRaven, Kress and Nistorescu. The results show that the failure at Hostomel Airport did have consequences on the loss of relative superiority, initiative and surprise, as well as logistical consequences. With this there are alternative reasons to discuss, for instance the poor planning involved in the operation. In the end a special operation can impact an offensive culmination and have strategic impact.
