The technological development of the battlefield has created a transparent combat environment, where movements are easily detected. Modern systems such as drones and satellites affect the requirements for tactical behavior. During the ongoing war in Ukraine, field fortifications have gained renewed significance. The purpose of this study is to describe how the Swedish Armed Forces portray the construction and use of troopfortifications. The material consists of publication and interviews, analyzed through Stephen Biddle`s theory The Modern System of Force Employment. The study applies a qualitative method, combining text analysis and interviews. The result show that troopfortifications are described through all four factors in Biddle´s theory. However, interviews add nuances regarding how threats such as drones and satellites influence their use and construction. Reconnaissance is described as central, while construction is time-consuming and constrained. The conclusions indicate a need to update Swedish Armed Forces Publications on troopfortifications.
