This interpretive study explores the commanding officers’ perspective of trust within Swedish army division and brigades when time is limited, as it probably would be when individuals and unit are replaces during operations in war.
Initially the army doctrine is problematized using Bacchi’s (2014) “What´s the problem represented to be?”. Then nine semi-structured interviews are analysed using Braun & Clarke (2006; 2021) thematic analysis method, the findings referred to research in the field of trust, swift trust and trust in military context.
The study shows that trust is formed intuitively but also that there are several things the organization could do or reflect on to make it happen more swiftly, highlighting the importance of the military education system and culture among other things.
In this way the study contributes with a different perspective and new empirics within war studies, also relevant to the scientific field of trust.
