Abstract [en]

This article underscores the vital role of staff rides in professional military education (PME), highlighting their ability to bridge historical military events and the contemporary challenges faced by military leaders. It introduces a hybrid staff ride model which merges historical studies with the practical demands of modern warfare, effectively bridging the gap between past analyses and present-day relevance. The article offers detailed guidance on planning staff rides, including the integration of war games, to create a unified learning experience. It presents an ideal pedagogical planning model to ensure the learning objectives align with the activities, and offers different models for field studies. These insights advance staff rides as crucial tools in PME, ensuring their continued relevance in preparing leaders for current and future challenges.
