2015 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [sv]

This study is a multiple case study utilizing Martin van Creveld’s Principles for ManeuverWarfare to analyze two World War II battles, El Alamein and Operation Market Garden. The relation between van Creveld’s principles for maneuver warfare and the outcome of thestudied battles is investigated. The purpose of the study is to determine if van Creveld’sprinciples are applicable to the cases and specifically if they can be used to explain the outcomeof each battle. It is also investigated if the use of the principles gives victory in the battles. The result of the study is that van Creveld’s principles are used more frequently and no deviationsfrom the principles are found in the case that ends in victory, the battle at El Alamein.Van Creveld’s principles are used less often and several deviations from the principles arerecorded in the case that ends in defeat, Operation Market Garden.
