The Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) have a pronounced desire to increase diversity within the agency, but at the same time there is a tension between words and deeds. This study intends to investigate what prevents and enables women´s service in combat positions in the SAF. The empirical data is based on the SAF´s annual reports between the years 2017-2023. The research is based on a thematic analysis and is analyzed using masculinity theory. The study shows that the SAF´s main recruitment base coincides with the place in the SAF where women are particulary exposed to unwelcome behavior. The study also shows that the SAF are the leading nation regarding UN Resolution 1325 but have challenges regarding gender equality work within their own organization. Recommendations will thus be to refocus and prioritize initiatives where the needs are greatest, which enables positive effects on the inclusion of women in the SAF.
