Abstract [en]
The aim of this study is to perform an in-depth analysis regarding the actions taken post earthquakes and disaster in Nepal 2015. Furthermore, the aim is to explain how three two different non governmental organizations (NGO) and one intergovernmental organization (IGO) used an intersectional gender perspective in their humanitarian responses. Additionally gender markers are used as a tool to reach an answer to the aim and the questions posed. This essay is primarily a qualitative study, which gives multiple perspectives on the situation, and the case analysis is used to reach the answers of the issues analyzed. To make the chosen theory useful, it was broken down into three goals taken from the Inter-Agency Standing Committees (IASC) gender markers. These goals were used to analyze whether or not the chosen NGO:s and IGO:s incorporated the intersectional gender perspective. This study concludes that the three different organizations addressed different vulnerabilities and vulnerable groups to varying extent. Pregnant women and children were the only groups that were labeled as vulnerable and were able to get specialized help and resources by all of the organizations. This led to the result that there were varying opinions about how successful the humanitarian work was in consideration to the intersectional gender perspective, which means that there still is work left until the humanitarian work will be truly inclusive and equal. Finally it is described how further research can be performed regarding a similar topic, with different kinds of starting points.
