Abstract [en]
The Swedish Parliament demands that the Swedish Armed Forces can cooperate with other military organizations and coordinate their operational planning with, among others, NATO.
The Swedish armed forces use “Doktrin för gemensamma operationer” (DGO-20) during peace, war, and crisis. Internationally, the Swedish Armed Forces uses NATO:s Allied joint doctrine for the conduct of operations (AJP-3). To meet the criteria that the Swedish government demands, DGO-20, and AJP-3 need to be intraoperative.
Therefore, this study aims to first assess how intraoperative each doctrine is, based on Codner and Sjöblom’s theoretical framework of interoperability with associated dimensions: organizational reflecting, behavioral, logistic, technical, coordination/liaison and fighting power, that are anchored in the theoretical framework. Thereafter, this paper will compare to what extent both doctrines are interoperable.
The conclusion of this paper is that according to the theoretical framework there is interoperability to some extent between the doctrines. All the dimensions are to some extent represented in AJP-3 however DGO-20 does not refer to all of them. The biggest similarity between the two doctrines is that DGO-20 is comparable to AJP-3 and can be seen as a step toward achieving the development of a common doctrine.
