Abstract [en]

This essay examines the Israeli ground forces use of combined arms during the Yom Kippur war 1973 and more specific, on the Sinai-front. The current debate surrounding the Israelis use of combined arms during the war looks at it from different perspectives. This essay adds a new perspective to this debate by examining three of the major battles fought at the Sinai-front.

Since none of the authors has used Robert R. Leonhard’s theory regarding combined arms. I have used his theory in purpose to contribute to the current debate. The research design in this essay is a single-case study design and the empirical data has been gathered from written documents covering the case.

The result of the analyse in this essay shows that the Israelis used combined arms differently during the battles. The contribution to the previous research in this essay shows that earlier research can be confirmed in some cases regarding combination between combat arms and that the Israelis improved their use of combined arms in the later battles through ad hoc solutions. The new contribution to the research that this essay has provided is the use of terrain in the battles, in which the Israelis used to their advantage to succeed in some situations.
