Abstract [en]
This thesis aims to shed light on current affairs in the Baltic sea region by studying the threat perceptions and construction of meanings in Finland, Poland, Sweden and Latvia. The thesis uses qualitative text analysis paired with discourse analysis to investigate how identities and meanings are constituted before and after the Russian interventions in Georgia and Ukraine. This enables the study to draw important conclusions about the Baltic sea security community and the possibilities and constraints for security cooperation in the region. The thesis concludes that the perceived Russian threat have led to a more tightly coupled security community in the Baltic sea region which enhances the possibilities for these states to work together for regional security.
