Eastern Africa is a region in many ways associated with conflict and insecurities.Nonetheless, a range of efforts aiming towards getting the states in the region tojoin effort in promoting peace and security are currently being undertaken.This report outlines the main multilateral peace and security initiatives that existin the region. It also seeks to explain some of the political dynamics that affectsthese initiatives as well as the broader effort of establishing an African Peace andSecurity Architecture (APSA).This report is part of a series of studies on APSA and the various regionalorganisations and mechanisms that form part of this structure.
