Abstract [en]

Private Military- and Security Companies (PMSC) are phenomena that is very common in today´s crisis management. Countries like the USA have been relying on the possibility of using these types companies as a tool in their military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq. In Iraq in 2008, there were more contractors from various PMSC on the ground than personal from the multinational coalition forces. Personnel from the Swedish Armed Forces have encountered these companies while serving in international peace keeping missions. Therefore, the purpose of this study has been to conduct a survey regarding the opinion of the personal of the Swedish Armed Forces, regarding the possibility of collaboration between personal from the Swedish Armed Forces and PMSC, in peace keeping missions. The study was carried out with the theoretical framework of Michael Codner´s theory on interoperability and was conducted through interviews with a group of officers from the Swedish Army, as well with an employee from a Swedish private security company.

The result of the study reveals that the group in general has critical attitude towards the idea of having personal from the Swedish Armed Forces working with personal from PMSC. The study reveals that elements such as; competence, ethics and work methods are the reasons for this attitude.
