This thesis conducts a textual analysis on the Swedish Armed Forces discourse about the development of a (cyber)soldier ethos. The aim of this study is to analyse whether the Swedish Armed Forces are cultivating a specific (cyber)soldier ethos based on other values and virtues than traditional martial ethos provides. By conducting this research seminal discussion about the morality of the individual cyber soldier is provided, while providing arguments for why a specific (cyber)soldier ethos is needed and what such an ethos might be made up of. This thesis has both a theory-developing and testing aim.
The analysis indicates that small parts of the presented (cyber)soldier ethos are being cultivated by the Swedish Armed Forces, while most parts are either lacking completely or signs of its existence are not strong enough to draw definitive conclusions of an awareness of the need of these specific virtues and values.
