Abstract [en]
The thesis is a disciplined configurative case study exploring the professional status of new crisis management occupations (security strategists and chiefs), and their duties in a Swedish contemporary crisis management system. By comparing new occupations with traditional cri-sis management professions such as police and fire brigade, it was possible to get an indica-tion of the occupations professional status as well as how their tasks are linked. The analysis is based on Brante’s understanding of the attribute approach and six interviews with practi-tioners representing new occupations as well as traditional crisis management professions. The result indicate that new crisis management occupations could be considered as semi- or pre-professions since they fulfil some of the criteria stated in the theoretical framework. Fur-thermore, it indicated that these occupations have a complementary role to the traditional pro-fessions since their duties are primarily proactive.
